PHOTOS: No. 1 Roadrunners capture elusive RMAC Tournament championship
MSU Denver volleyball team enters NCAA Division II tournament as a No. 1 seed.
They say seven is a lucky number.
But sometimes luck is where hard work intersects with opportunity. Sometimes you are also the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
Finally, in its seventh straight trip to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament championship match, the top-ranked MSU Denver volleyball team came away as the tournament champion.
The Roadrunners started strong and finished just strong enough Saturday night to hold off a valiant effort from No. 14 Regis and at long last grabbed that elusive title.
MSU Denver improved to 28-1 with its 22nd straight victory — the third-longest winning streak in program history. For the second straight season, the top-ranked MSU Denver volleyball team has earned the No. 1 seed for the NCAA Division II Tournament’s South Central Regional and will host the eight-team single-elimination tournament Thursday through Saturday at the Auraria Event Center.
“The regional ranking speaks to our body of work,” MSU Denver coach Jenny Glenn said. “I’m really proud of the day-in, day-out grind that this group brings that has put them in the position to get that kind of respect.”
MSU Denver will play CSU Pueblo in a first-round match Thursday at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale this week. A live broadcast is available for those who can’t attend in-person.
The winner of the South Central Regional will join seven other regional champions at the NCAA Championships, to be held in Seattle from Dec. 1-3.
