The MLK Peace Breakfast, which has been held every January for more than three decades, will also celebrate three community leaders who embody the principles championed by King:
K. Scherrer, Ph.D.: A transformative educator in MSU Denver’s Department of Social Work whose career is dedicated to promoting understanding, challenging systemic oppression and fostering inclusive spaces where all individuals can thrive.
Jermaine Gunnells: The interim associate director of Equity and Racial Justice Programs at MSU Denver.
Ryan Ross, Ph.D.: President and CEO of the Urban Leadership Foundation of Colorado.
Hosted at Mile High Station to accommodate growing interest for the well-respected and long-tenured program, the breakfast serves as a cornerstone event bringing together MSU Denver students and faculty, staff and community members to reflect on King’s enduring legacy.
“It’s a moment to honor leaders who embody Dr. King’s vision,” said Michael Benitez, Ph.D., vice president for Diversity and Inclusion at MSU Denver. “This offers the community an opportunity to reflect and recommit to building a more just and inclusive society.”
