PHOTOS: Umoja Conference celebrates Black women in and of hip-hop
During a full day of events, performers, scholars, participants and community members explored the topic of hip-hop feminism.
The Department of Africana Studies at Metropolitan University of Denver presented its 3rd Annual Umoja Conversations Conference, titled “Black Women in/and/of Hip-Hop,” on Oct. 20. The day’s events included performances, a film screening, panel discussions, a fireside chat with keynote speaker Joan Morgan, Ph.D., and more. Through this year’s theme, participants explored challenges faced and celebrated contributions by Black women in the hip-hop industry.
