Less than a decade ago, Sean Peters was homeless and struggling to get by. Now, he's living his dream as owner of Peak View Brewing Co.
When Sean Peters surveys the taproom at Peak View Brewing Co. on a Friday afternoon, the sight of beer lovers kicking off their weekend with a pint of one of his creations seems surreal.
“It’s a little scary. Right now, we’re still in a phase where it seems like everything is moving so fast,” he said. “But it’s cool to see people actually drinking your beer that you’ve put a lot of work into over the years.”
Peters and his business partner, Justin Coufal, opened the taproom, 9672 E. Arapahoe Rd., Greenwood Village, in April. Since then, business is booming. As the company’s head brewer, Peters is working hard to keep up with demand for the recipes he’s been honing for years, he said.
Hard work is nothing new to Peters, a 2017 graduate from the College of Business at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
After high school, Peters pursued his dream of serving in the Air Force, but his application was rejected because was home-schooled. Soon after, he found himself homeless and could barely afford to feed himself.
On a cold night in his car, he recalled some advice a soldier had given him outside the recruiting office following his rejection: Never give up on your dreams.
“That night sparked a turnaround in my life,” Peters, a 2017 MSU Denver commencement speaker, told his classmates on graduation day. “I decided enough was enough, and I was not going to let people tell me what I could not do.”
Peters went on to enlist in the Air Force Reserve and became a distinguished graduate from its Security Forces Academy. He enrolled at Arapahoe Community College and transferred to MSU Denver, where he majored in management.
