About

Julia Mitchell, MFA, is an assistant professor and faculty advisory of performance in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Her areas of expertise include acting for stage and screen, classical theatre, and performance coaching. 

Mitchell brings more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, with notable work across television, film, and theatre. She is best known for her role as Sofia Dupre on the long-running CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, a performance that earned her three consecutive nominations for the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series. Her film and television credits also include Notorious (2009) with her portrayal of Jan, as well as recurring roles on Young Sheldon and All the Queens Men. She also appears on Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order. 

Mitchell holds a Master of Fine Arts from the National Theater Conservatory and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Howard University. She also completed additional studies in classical theater at Oxford University and the University of California.
