Logan Schuetz

Logan Schuetz, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His areas of expertise include sports business management, intercollegiate athletics, organizational behavior and sports sales. His research is centered around sports organizations, employee behavior, intercollegiate sports, and analytics in sports.

In addition to teaching, Schuetz has published various articles on sport management. He co-authored “Developing Flourishing Among Employees in the College Sports Workplace,” featured in the Sport, Business, and Management: An International Journal. He has presented at national and international conferences where the Collegiate Sports Research Institute awarded his publication “The Influence of Emotions in the Collegiate Sport Workplace: An Analysis of Sport Employee Pride, Passion, and Engagement,” article of the year in 2023.

Prior to joining MSU Denver, Schuetz served as an assistant professor of Sport Management at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Schuetz also worked closely with the NFL, MLB, and collegiate sports teams in sales, operations, and community relations.

Schuetz earned his Ph.D. in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado and his master’s in Sport Administration and bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, both from Indiana University Bloomington.

Ben Thompson

Ben Thompson, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Prior to working in higher education, he was employed as an exercise professional for Johnson & Johnson as well as in hospital and community-based fitness facilities. Thompson is an active member in the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine. He currently serves as the chair of the Committee on Certification and Registry Boards Certified Exercise Physiologist subcommittee for ACSM as well as a member-at-large for the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences.

Thompson was recently honored to be named a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He is one of approximately 1400 in the entire College. He is also an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and has maintained this certification for over 16 years. Thompson has published in well-known, peer-reviewed journals like the American Journal of Physiology – Heart and Circulatory Physiology and the Journal of Applied Physiology. He has continued research interests in skeletal muscle blood flow as well as the efficacy of physician/exercise professional national initiatives.

Thompson received his doctorate in exercise science from University of Toledo, a master’s in exercise science from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s in kinesiology from University of Northern Colorado.

Marc Rabinoff

Joe Quatrochi

Joe Quatrochi, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He is the coordinator for the Exercise Science major within the HPS department.

Quatrochi professional experience includes extensive consulting activities for public and private entities in the areas of worksite health promotion and physical activity programs for adults, seniors/retirees, athletes and public service professionals (firefighters, security personnel). He has won numerous awards for his teaching and professional service.

During the past 25 years, Quatrochi has shared his expertise on numerous fitness and wellness-related topics in a variety of ways: through publication of several articles and chapters in books; delivery of dozens of presentations to various professional, private and public groups; and through many interviews for both print and electronic media. Most recently, he has shared his experiences as a cancer survivor. Specifically, Quatrochi has presented to various groups regarding the importance of self-responsibility to those being treated for cancer and other diseases. His primary research interest lies in the area of physical activity for the promotion of health and the prevention of disease.

Quatrochi received his doctorate in health promotion and masters in exercise physiology from University of New Mexico and a bachelor’s in physical education from Fort Lewis College.

Troy Morgan

Troy Morgan, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His areas of expertise include youth sport development, systems and structures of athlete development, and mental health counseling. He currently teaches Organization and Administration of Sports, Sport in Society, Leadership and Ethics in Sport and oversees student field experience.

Morgan has over fifteen years of experience in the sport development domain, including in athlete mental health counseling, scientific research, and amateur and professional sports player development. He serves on the judicial committee for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee – National Governing Body and is a content expert and policy advisor for youth sport development programs in African refugee camps.

Morgan received his doctorate degree in physical education, sport and exercise science from the University of New Mexico. He received a master’s degree in counseling and development from Kansas State University. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Kansas.

Kelly Evans

Kelly Evans, Ph.D., is a sports management associate professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She teaches a variety of courses, including sport promotion/marketing, sport enterprise/finance and intro to sport management.

As a practitioner, Evans was an integral member of a summer collegiate baseball team in the Coastal Plain League in South Carolina. She worked her way to become the league’s first female general manager within seven years. Evans also worked closely with MiLB, MLB, NFL and NBA teams in the areas of marketing, operations, sales, event management and finance. Her other work included helping plan local festivals, charity events and concerts in South Carolina.

Her research interests include sport and entertainment marketing, sport sponsorships and consumer behavior. Evans has presented her research at national and international conferences where she won research grants to continue her work in sport sponsorships.

Evans earned her doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in sport management and sport marketing from University of South Carolina in 2019, 2014 and 2010 respectfully.

Colleen Colles

Colleen Colles, Ed.D., is a professor of sports management and assistant chair in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She also serves as the program coordinator for the Sports Management major. Her areas of expertise include gender-equity issues in sport, legal issues in sport, sport internships, study abroad and sport-management pedagogy. She currently teaches classes in Sports Management and Career and Professional Development in Sports Management and oversees internships.

Prior to joining MSU Denver, Colles worked at Nichols College for 12 years, teaching in the MBA program and serving as the department chair for the Sports Management Program. She taught at the University of Northern Colorado and worked as the head volleyball coach and an instructor at Eastern Oregon University. Her involvement at MSU Denver includes co-chairing the College of Professional Studies’ Retention, Tenure and Promotion Committee, serving on the Enrollment, Retention and Graduation Committee, the Experiential Learning Task Force and multiple search committees. She has been involved with the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) since its inception, serving on the Board of Commissioners for multiple terms. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Sportswomen of Colorado and is an active member of the North American Society for Sport Management and the Sport and Recreation Law Association.

In 2014, Colles led the transformation of the Sport Management curriculum, which resulted in the successful accreditation of the program by the COSMA in 2017. She has also been instrumental in reestablishing a distinguished Sport Management Advisory Board, hosting an annual Women in Sport Leadership panel and creating two academic minors, one in Sport Media and the other in Sport Management. Her most recent work, Networks and Academic Partnerships in International Sport Management, has been published as a book chapter in “Managing Sport Across Borders.”

She received her doctorate in Sports Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1997. She received her master’s degree in Physical Education in 1990 from Eastern Kentucky University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Health and Fitness Management from Northern Michigan University in 1988.

Susan Bertelsen

Susan Bertelsen, Ed.D., is a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver where she has been employed for eleven years. Previously, she taught two years at the University of Wyoming, one year at Santa Barbara City College and over 10 years at the high school level in California, Hawaii, and Colorado. Bertelsen specializes in methods of teaching fitness and physical activity education, health education and physical activity behavior change. She has owned and operated a 3,000 square foot fitness center from 2007-2009 and has been a certified personal trainer since 1997.

Originally from California, Bertelsen earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; Master’s from California State University Fresno; and Doctorate from University of Northern Colorado. She is an avid mountain bike rider and enjoys a variety of outdoor pursuits including golf, water sports, and traveling.
