About

Yishi Lee, Ph.D., serves as associate professor in the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His areas of expertise are computer modeling and simulations, ultrasonic technologies for material characterization, and the advancement of robotics for manufacturing. His research focus is on improving how we use and understand ultrasonic signals by applying fundamental scientific concepts.

In addition to teaching, Lee is also a senior research and development engineer at Utility Asset Management, Inc.  Additionally, he holds a Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt Certification for continuous process improvement from the US Navy and is a certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.

Lee is currently contributing to the understanding and commercial development of applying ultrasonic wave characterization for material production. He has authored “Decomposing Stress Wave Interference in a Cylindrical Wooden Medium Using an Inverse Deconvolution Filter.” featured in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America as well as “Correlation Analysis of Ultrasonic Stress Wave Characteristics and the Destructive Strength Measurements in Cylindrical Wooden Structure” in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Publication. He currently holds five material science patents for evaluating wooden structures.

Before joining MSU Denver, Lee served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Denver.

Lee earned his Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from the University of Denver and he earned both his Masters of Science and Bachelors of Science in Engineering/Applied Physics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
