About
Tony Nuñez, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His expertise includes cardiorespiratory fitness, metabolic responses and adaptations to exercise, strength and conditioning, and exercise physiology. His research focuses on how the body responds to and adapts to exercise, with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular, muscular, and metabolic factors in resistance training.
Outside of teaching, Nuñez is active in national committees for the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He also serves as a primary reviewer for both the International Journal of Research in Exercise Physiology and Scientific Reports. Nuñez has co-authored two publications: “Metabolic Effects of Two High-Intensity Circuit Training Protocols: Does Sequence Matter?” in the Journal of Exercise Science and Fitness, and “Effects of High-Intensity Interval Training Using a Breathing-Restrictive Mask Compared to Intermittent Hypobaric Hypoxia” in the Journal of Human Sport & Exercise.
Before joining MSU Denver, Nuñez was a graduate teaching assistant and exercise physiology lab assistant at the University of New Mexico.
Nuñez earned his doctorate from the University of New Mexico and holds a Master of Science in Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Fitness from from California State University, Long Beach.
