Dorothy Shapland

Dorothy Shapland, Ed.D. is an associate professor for the School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her expertise includes early childhood education, relationship building with students and families, social-emotional skill development in the early grades, creating inclusive learning communities, and scientific inquiry with young children. 

She has more than 30 years of experience as an early childhood educator. 

Her research focuses on relationship building with students and families, social-emotional skill development in the early grades, and creating inclusive learning communities. She is a founding member of the VOICES Diversity Council, Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children, and a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Childhood Education International. 

She earned her doctoral in Leadership for Educational Equity and a master’s in Educational Leadership Research & Policy from the University of Colorado in Denver, and her bachelor’s in psychology from Muhlenberg College.
