About

Raul Melgoza, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Chicana and Chicano studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His areas of expertise include Chicana/o politics, history, and culture, as well as race, ethnicity, and comparative ethnic studies.  

With an extensive teaching and research experience, Melgoza’s work examines Chicanx cultural politics, relational racialization, and U.S. colonialisms. His recent projects explore Latina/o voter suppression and Latino comic book culture. He has presented his research  at leading national conferences, including the American Studies Association, the National Association for Chicana and Chicano studies, and the Latina/o Studies Association.  

Before joining MSU Denver, Melgoza taught in the Department of Ethnic Studies and the Program for Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Colorado Boulder.  

Melgoza earned a doctorate in comparative ethnic studies from the University of Colorado Boulder, a master’s degree in Chicana and Chicano studies from California State University, Northridge, and a bachelor’s degree in history from San Francisco State University.
