About
Maria Akrabova, M.A., is an associate professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her areas of expertise include contemporary Spanish and Spanish American narrative, gender perspectives in literature, genre theory and cultural studies.
In addition to her teaching role, Akrabova specializes in Spanish language, literature and linguistics, employing learner-centered and brain-based teaching methods to enhance student engagement and comprehension. Her research explores the intersections of gender, identity, and modern Hispanic literature with a particular focus on female authorship and narrative experimentation.
Akrabova’s published works include El signo y el espejo: una aproximación a lo fantástico femenino (Ediciones EON, 2014) and numerous scholarly articles in journals such as Latin American Literature Today, Cincinnati Romance Review, and Letras Hispanas. She has also contributed to McGraw-Hill’s Conéctate textbook series and has presented her research at national and international conferences.
Akrabova earned her doctor of philosophy in Spanish with a specialization in Spanish American Narrative from the University of Kansas and holds a Master of Arts in Hispanic Linguistics.
