About

Jonathan Sanders, Ph.D., is the Director of Veteran and Military Student Services at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He is also an enlisted Army infantry veteran. His expertise includes veteran and military student success, transition from military to civilian, higher education in U.S. democracy and philosophical studies.  

Sanders has built a career catered to helping service members, veterans and their families effectively transition into higher education and civilian life. He has supported more than 1,000 military-connected students at MSU Denver and leads many initiatives that promote student success, engagement and military student support services around campus. His published work includes “Community College Civic Education and Hannah Arendt.” 

Prior to MSU Denver, he served as Director of Veteran Services at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he worked closely with student veterans and active-duty service members. Simultaneously, he conducted research on programming provided to military-connected populations. 

Sander received his Ph.D. in Higher Education, as well as a master’s in Education and Higher Education from the University of North Texas, and his bachelor’s of arts in English from Abilene Christian University.
