About
Chereka Dickerson, Ph.D., is an associate professor of English at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her expertise encompasses African American literature and culture, with a particular focus on African American women’s writing, life writing, and the intersections of literature with social justice.
With a background that includes experience in her family’s restaurant business, Dickerson brings a unique perspective to her academic pursuits. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in critical race, feminist, and gender studies to create inclusive and reflective learning environments.
Dickerson’s research interests span African American studies, American studies, popular culture studies, critical race studies, women, gender, and sexuality studies, hip-hop studies, life writing studies, and feminist studies.
She holds a Ph.D. in English studies from Illinois State University, a master’s degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado Denver, and a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Northern Colorado.
