Michala Stock

Michala Stock, Ph.D., is an assistant professor anthropology and director of the Human Identification Laboratory at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She teaches courses in biological anthropology, forensic anthropology, osteology and human development. In addition, stock is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and conducts forensic anthropological casework for the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner and local Colorado counties. She has also been involved as an associate member of the American Academy of Forensic Science and a member of the American association of Physical Anthropologist.

Stock has have given numerous public lectures and done outreach presentations for learners from adults, through upper-elementary and middle school aged students. Her presentations have focused on specialty and forensic anthropology, including how human remains are recovered, how to estimate the demographic characteristics of an unknown decedent and skeletal trauma analysis. Her research focuses on the growth and development of human skeletal variation and improving biological profile estimation using quantitative methods.

Stock received her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Florida in 2018, her master’s in anthropology from New York University in 2013 and her bachelor’s in anthropology from Northwestern University in 2010.
