Megan Westmore

Megan Westmore, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her areas of expertise include primary preventions of sexual violence, universal design for learning, healthy relationships and sexual education and intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Her research explores intimate partner and sexual violence prevention and healing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and how such access to help impact victimization. As an educator and researcher, she aims to answer important questions about victimization and the effectiveness of prevention methods used in the past. 

Before joining MSU Denver, Westmore previously spent seven years working for a private practice addressing and advocating policy for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as prevention and healing services related to sexual violence.  

She received her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington, a master’s of science in Social Work, with a concentration in Community and Administrative Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her bachelor’s in Social Work and Spanish and is a certified social worker in the state of Colorado.
