About
Sheryl Zajdowicz, Ph.D., is the chair and professor in the Department of Biology at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She has conducted research on metal homeostasis in bacterial pathogens, pathogenesis, microbial genetics and virulence mechanisms of pathogenic bacteria.
In addition to teaching, Zajdowicz is involved in the Undergraduate Research Program at MSU Denver. She started her involvement in 2011 by helping coordinate the inaugural Undergraduate Research Conference. Since then Zajdowicz has increased her involvement and has been the lead faculty associate for the past several years. Prior to joining MSU Denver, Zajdowicz worked as a research associate at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus for nearly 10 years where she developed genetic tools for manipulation of a variety of bacterial pathogens. She has co-authored several articles based on her research.
Zajdowicz received her doctorate in biomedical sciences with an emphasis in pathogenic microbiology from Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2003 and a bachelor’s in biology from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1997.
