Jeff Helton, Ph.D., is associate professor in the Health Care Management program at MSU Denver and a senior leader in the health care industry, working as chief financial officer in hospitals, health plans, or integrated health systems over the past twenty plus years. He specialized in helping organizations that were in bankruptcy or receivership come back to financial health.
He earned a Ph.D. in Public Health Management (focused study in health care finance) and minored in Health Economics and Health Informatics from The University of Texas School of Public Health. He also earned Master of Science in Hospital and Health Administration from The University of Alabama at Birmingham and a B.B.A. in Health Care Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.
Helton is well versed in the areas of health care finance, health care economics and policy, health care fraud, and health informatics – especially in relation to the problems of the uninsured and health care reform. In addition, he's worked in Canada and is very familiar with the Canadian health care system and how it compares with that of the United States. He has also made several presentations on the problem of health care fraud and operational efficiency in hospitals.
