James R. Drake, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the School of Hospitality, Events and Tourism at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He specializes in casino gaming operations and management, vacation ownership management and operations, capital structure/finance, securities analysis and hotel operations.
Drake started working in the hospitality industry in Las Vegas, Nevada as a systems analyst intern for Bechtel Nevada Corporation in 1998 and went on to work as an office manager for Associated Sign and Graphics, financial analyst in casino marketing for Golden Nugget and financial analyst for Wyndham Vacation Resorts. In 2011, he made the switch to teaching by working as a graduate teaching assistant in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
He has presented several presentations on his areas of expertise. His research interests include the vacation ownership industry, hospitality finance, accounting, hotel management and human resources.
Drake received his master’s in business administration from University of Nevada, Reno in 2001 and a bachelor’s in management information systems from University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1998.
